THE LOTUS MEETS THE NAUTILUS
Complete Idiot's Guide to Buddhism Honored With Award

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — April 11, 2010 — The Nautilus Book Awards, whose mission is, “Changing the World One Book at a Time,” has named "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buddhism" as a 2010 Silver Award winner.

Author Gary Gach learned of his honor upon arriving home by train one night after teaching Practical Buddhism as part of Stanford Continuing Studies' commitment to lifelong learning. His immediate feeling was a pleasurable shock of recognition, a validation of the apt wedding of a popular mainstream educational format (The Complete Idiot's Guides) with an 2600-year-old educational tradition (the Way of the Buddha). No one has to be Buddhist to enjoy these teachings, and he's sensible this Nautilus will help the book spiral further outwards, and facilitate more readers' finding their own light within. This quote came to mind: "When one candle lights another, its light is not diminished. The light given off together is greater than the light of one."

The Nautilus Book Awards was established in the year 2000 to honor and celebrate print and audio books of exceptional merit that make a literary and heartfelt contribution to spiritual growth, conscious living, high-level wellness, green values, responsible leadership and positive social change, as well as to the worlds of art, creativity and inspiration. The Silver and Gold winners are carefully selected in a three- tier judging process by an experienced team of book reviewers, librarians, authors, editors, bookstore owners, and leaders in the publishing industry.

Winning authors reflect the Nautilus Awards mission and include such distinguished authors and teachers as Deepak Chopra, Thich Nhat Hanh, Barbara Kingsolver, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Stephen Levine, Joel Olsteen, Caroline Myss, and Marianne Williamson. Founder, Marilyn McGuire, has created the "Nautilus Library of Imagination & Possibility" where all Nautilus Award winners are featured, posted at the Natulius website.

Comprehensive and comprehendable, the book is really two-in-one: living Buddhism & Buddhist living. Featuring detailed information on Mindfulness/Insight Meditation, Zen, Pure Land, and Tibetan perspectives, it "explores and presents simply and creatively the practical and the theoretical, the mundane and the sacred of Buddhism." With 100,000 copies in print, and translated into four languages, this edition has been updated and thoroughly revised.
